DRESS GUIDELINES FOR THE UNIVERSAL LIFE CHURCH

1. The Hood

All hoods shall be of the Oxford Simple shape

1.1 Non degree Awards

For those awarded the following degrees, the hood shall be of black stuff fully lined with white silk. The cowl shall be edged on the outside with twisted cord of blue mustard yellow and silver. The neckband of the hood shall be plain.

1.2 Masters Degrees

The hood shall be of black corded silk fully lined and edged for three-eighths of an inch with silk of the colour indicated below:

Master of Comparative religion (DM) Scarlet

Master of Metaphysics (MSc) Yellow

Master of Paganism (DM) Scarlet

Master of Religion (DM) Scarlet

Master of Spiritual Awareness (MEd) Light Blue

Master of Spirituality (DM) Scarlet

Master of Wiccan studies (DM) Scarlet

1.3 Research Doctorates

For research doctorates listed below: the hood shall be of black corded silk, fully lined with silk of the colour indicated below.

Doctor of Christian Studies (DLitt) White

Doctor of Metaphysics (DSc(Met)) Yellow

Doctor of Philosophy of Religion (PhD) Blue

1.4 Higher Doctorates

The hood shall be of silk of the colour indicated below, fully lined with silk of the colour indicated below, with a white chevron of silk, and edged with imitation ermine fur:

Doctor of Divinity (DD) Scarlet

 

2. The Gown

2.1 Non Degree Awards

Black stuff gown with pointed sleeves, the same shape as for the Cambridge BA except that the forearm of the sleeve shall be closed and gathered up and held in place with a single black cord and button on the outside.

2.2 Masters Degrees

The gown shall be of black stuff with long closed sleeves, the same shape as for the Oxford MA

2.3 Research Doctorates

A blue cloth gown of the same shape as that worn by London Doctors, faced with five inches of, and having the sleeves lined with, silk of the colour indicated.

Doctor of Metaphysics (DSc(Met)) Yellow

Doctor of Philosophy of Religion (PhD) Blue

2.4 Higher Doctorates

Those awarded higher doctorates shall be entitled to wear a gown of black silk of the same shape as for London Batchelors, faced and lined with black silk. This shall always be worn under an Oxford DD pattern convocation habit of the colour indicated:

Doctor of Divinity (DD) Scarlet

3. The Cap

3.1 Non-Degree Courses

A black cap of the square mortar-board pattern with a black tassel. A woman may wear a soft black (Oxford) cloth cap.

3.2 Masters Degrees

A black cap of the square mortar-board pattern with a black tassel. A woman may wear a soft black (Oxford) cloth cap.

3.3 Research Doctorates

A round Tudor bonnet of blue velvet, with cord and tassels in the colour indicated:

Doctor of Christian Studies (DLitt) White

Doctor of Metaphysics (DSc(Met)) Yellow

Doctor of Philosophy of Religion (PhD) Blue

3.4 Higher Doctorates

A biretta of the colour indicated:

Doctor of Divinity (DD) Scarlet

4. Official Dress of Principal Officers of the Seminary

Robe: Black damask of the London LLB pattern; front trimmed gold lace and sleeves, back and sides trimmed gold lace and frogs.

Cap: A black silk velvet cap of the square mortar-board pattern, trimmed with gold lace and gold tassel or a Tudor bonnet of black silk damask trimmed with tassels and cord of gold.

5. Official Dress of Fellows of the Seminary

Hood: A hood of the London full shape of Mustard Yellow silk, lined with Mustard Yellow Silk

Robe: Black damask of the London LLB pattern

Cap: A black cap of the square mortar-board pattern with a black tassel. A woman may wear a soft black (Oxford) cloth cap.

5. Affiliated Institutions

Affiliate colleges and institutions may specify academic dress regulations for their officers, but may not deviate from the academic dress regulations for awards unless expressly authorised to do so.

6. Seminary Colors

The following Seminary colours may be worn by all graduates and students of the Seminary.

Silk tie and square: 1 inch dark blue, â…›inch silver, â…›inch Mustard Yellow, â…›inch silver, (In the case of the tie, stripes to run diagonally from left shoulder to right hip).

Blazer: Dark blue flannel with Seminary Crest on pocket, bound with silver silk ribbon 1 inch wide on outer edges.

Woolen scarf: 3 inches silver, 3 inches blue, ½ inch silver, ½ inch Mustard yellow, ½ inch silver, 3 inches blue, 3 inches silver. Fringe: silver and blue.

Notes

1. Any graduate is entitled to wear the dress prescribed at the date of graduation.

2. If silk is not obtainable for any form of dress, or is prohibitively expensive, an appropriate substitute is acceptable under these Regulations.

3. A black cloth cap may be substituted for the black velvet cap.

4. These regulations are subject to change at the discretion of the officers of the seminary.
